Western Pennsylvania Ski Council presents the annual Council Cup

Saturday, March 12, 2011

The Council Cup on Sat. March 5 has been postponed. It will take place Sat. March 12 – weather and conditions permitting.

Please check with Seven Springs Ski School to make sure it will be held on Sat. March 12.

Registration: 8-10 a.m. in the Ski Lodge *

Fee: $10 per racer

Race: 11:30 a.m.

Format: One-run Giant Slalom held on Avalanche Slope with teams consisting of 7 or more racers.

Each team must have a minimum of 5 males and 2 females.

Race will be handicapped.

You will race in the order in which you sign up.

*All racers must be registered by 10 a.m. the morning

of the race, no exceptions.

* Children may only race if parents are present at the race site.

*You must be a ski club member identified on a roster submitted to WPSC

one week prior to race date to race in the Council Cup.

Helmets are recommended.

Awards Party: Matterhorn 3 – 5 p.m. *

* Winners must be present to receive prizes.

Special Olympics Maryland announces the 2011 Winter Games at Whitetail Resort

February 28 & March 1st

8 AM-4 PM

Be a fan of Special Olympics Maryland and Volunteer!

Special Olympics athletes will compete in Snow Shoe, Alpine and Cross Country skiing. Sport specific knowledge is not required. Sport competition tasks include: escorting and staging athletes and timekeeping and scorekeeping.

NASTAR Mixer Rescheduled

Western Pennsylvania Ski Council presents the annual NASTAR MIXER

Sunday, February 20, 2011

Registration — 8 to 11 a.m. in the Ski Lodge

Race — Noon to 1 p.m.

Fee — $10 per person

Awards — Matterhorn Lounge *

*Winners must be present to receive prizes.

The NASTAR MIXER is a fun race for all – you do not have to be a club member to participate. The race consists of two runs and competitors are placed into equal teams. The fastest racer from each category has a chance to qualify for the National NASTAR Races.

Participants can take part in an après event awards party in the Matterhorn from 4 to 6 p.m. including pizza and prizes. Winners must be present to receive prizes. (Non-racing guests may attend the party for $5.)

Gates and Guns at 7springs

Gates and Guns – 1st Annual Event
Saturday, February 19, 2011

Get together 5 of your fastest and most accurate friends for a competition like no other!

Teams of 5 will compete against each other for the podium and bragging rights.

How does it Work?

1. Each team member takes at least two runs on the preset NASTAR course

- The fastest time of the day from each person will be used for competition

- Points will be assigned per person based off of the overall ranking

2. Each team will shoot 125 combined targets at the Sporting clays lodge

- Targets are shot in a 5-stand format, 25 targets per person

- Points will be assigned per person based off overall ranking

- Teams will be responsible for their own transportation showing up 30 minutes prior to their designated shooting time.

- All equipment and ammunition will be supplied. You are welcome to use your own if you wish.

The team with the most combined points in the gates and guns category wins. In the event of a tie, the fastest individual time on NASTAR will be used to determine the winner.

Winners will be announced at the Mon Valley Ski Club meeting on 3/11/11 (Participants who are non MVSC members will receive free admittance to meeting)

Learn to Ski and Snowboard Day

Level 1 – Ski: $12 Snowboard: $22

Level 1 is for the person who has never tried skiing or boarding. Ages 8 and older

Includes 115 minute lesson, rental equipment, limited access lift ticket, and $20 credit toward Level 2 lesson package. ** Must request coupon at Ski School Desk.

Lesson Times – 10 am, Noon, or 2 pm.

Level 2 – Ski: $22 Snowboard: $32

Level 2 is for the person who has been on skis or snowboard and can link turns. Ages 8 and older.

Includes 115 minute lesson, rental equipment, and limited access lift ticket.

WPSC Ski Rally

Western Pennsylvania Ski Council 19th Annual Ski Rally

Registration: 9 a.m. -1 p.m. in the Ski Lodge

Rally: 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Fee: $10 per person (children 12 and under are free)

A fun event for the whole family, teams of 2 to 4 people search for clues on the mountain during a 2-1/2 hour time frame.

Participants can take part in an apres event party including pizza and prizes in the Matterhorn Lounge at 4:30 p.m.

Open to the public!!! Family Fun Event!
